Latest news and information about the Cleveland Indians.Indians Team Report (Yahoo! Sports)

The biggest thing the Indians learned in 2008 is that you can't lose the two biggest hitters out of the middle of your lineup for three months without it dramatically affecting your record. That's what happened to the Indians, who played most of this season with designated hitter Travis Hafner and catcher Victor Martinez on the disabled list.
Having a bullpen in a constant state of turmoil also can torpedo a season. The Indians experienced all of that in 2008, a season in which they were expected to contend for a spot in the postseason but instead were trading away their veterans by midseason.
The lost season did allow the team to further evaluate some of its younger players by giving them increased playing time.
Vizquel undergoes eye surgery (AP)

Omar Vizquel, the 11-time Gold Glove shortstop who will be looking for work this winter, is recovering from laser surgery on his right eye. "All went well," Vizquel said in an e-mail. He had the procedure last week once the season ended, then had to wait several days as the eye healed before returning to his home in the Seattle area.
Indians DH Travis Hafner mulling shoulder surgery (AP)
7 Oct 2008 at 5:15pm
Indians designated hitter Travis Hafner may need right shoulder surgery after a disappointing end-of-the-season physical exam. Hafner spent more than three months on the disabled list with a strained shoulder. During his exit physical, team doctors found the strength did not return to levels that the club had hoped following the extended rehab, general manager Mark Shapiro said Tuesday.
Division series TV ratings down from last year (AP)
7 Oct 2008 at 4:54pm
Television ratings for baseball's division series declined from last year. The 15 games on TBS averaged a 2.8 rating, the network said Tuesday. That's down 26 percent from a 3.8 for 13 games in 2007. The absence of the New York Yankees, with their large market and national appeal, hurt. Their four-game division series with the Cleveland Indians last year averaged a 5.2 rating.
