We knew (we hoped) the Sox could bounce back from last night’s kick in the pants and with Beckett on the mound, our chances were pretty good. The Tigers have struggled and would have been swept had it not been for the dumb luck and miscues of yesterday.
Indeed, from the second inning on, Beckett had this one pretty much in hand with Varitek and Ellsbury providing the punch. Youkilis, who’s on fire at the plate hit is 7th homerun of the season in the 5th inning. That gives him a total of 5th this week alone! I swear I saw the baseball covering it’s eyes on it’s way to the plate in one of Youk’s plate appearances!
The Tigers couldn’t generate much offense against Beckett but broke through in the 4th inning when shortstop Ramon Santiago singled in a run. That would be it for the offense as the Sox seemingly cruised in this one handing the Tigers their 21st loss of the young season.
