What does your team (NFL) have to do in order to contend for the Super Bowl in the 2009 season?

fpliii@ymail.com asked:

Do you need a star WR to help your make your passing game as effective as your defense?

Do you need that last guy to help bring the team together on and off the field?

Do you need some younger talent to replace tired veterans?

Do you need to draft a franchise QB or otherwise and start building from the ground up?

Do you need a coaching staff that won’t destroy your team or let your team destroy itself down the stretch?

I’m a Bengals fan, so there’s absolutely nothing my team can do to contend next year. Maybe in 2011 or 2012, but not before then. What we need is:

    1) A franchise running back. Cedric Benson did a nice job this season, but they need a guy who could be a long-term threat.

    2) New ownership. Most of the bad decisions made in Cincinnati come from the ownership level.

    3) A complete overhaul of the defensive line and linebackers. They improved this season, but there just isn’t nearly enough talent to compete in a division with Pittsburgh.

    4) Improvements on the offensive line, which was among the league’s best three years ago but has fallen on hard times.

Really, the Bengals’ best chance next season would be to trade all personnel to Pittsburgh and have the Steelers come play in Cincinnati.

Nolan needs to bring the Broncos defense to around the middle of the pack. (ranked 12-16) 30th ranked defense this season….pathetic. I anticipate a very significant turnover in defensive personnel.

McDaniels needs to get Denver’s offense better at closing the deal and scoring points. Ranked 2nd in total offense this season….just need to bring the points up. The weapons are already in place. They need to keep the RBs healthy.

Falcons need help in the secondary, particulary at safety.
